ALEXANDRE GREGHI
About Alexandre Greghi
Alexandre Greghi is an realist artist and an art educator. He is originally from São Paulo, Brazil, now lives and works in Langley, Greater Vancouver, BC, Canada.
His journey towards art happened through advertising. After years of learning, his advertising work lost it’s focus and was replaced by the work as an artist and art educator. He was a co-founder of Atelier Contraponto, where he taught drawing and painting in São Paulo. He also worked in Fundação Casa, a correction facility for minors, teaching drawing to incarcerated teenagers.
Now he teaches at the Langley Arts Council and at the Shadbolt Centre of the arts, in Burnaby, both in the Fraser Valley, Canada.
His work is realistic and pictorial. It emphasizes the feeling of reality, not a simple copy of it. It strives for movement and subjectivity, through abstraction and a translation of what is seen. The technique transfers the reality to the support.
The process is distinct from the academic method and is radically diverse from contemporary art.
Since 2006, Alexandre has participated in many exhibits in Canada, Brazil, and internationally.
